There is no doubt we are in the beginning stages of a major downturn in the Global Economy.  Despite the gloom and doom talk during the summer many businesses reported strong sales.  That all began to change in September and indeed the promotional products industry as a whole began to take a turn for the worst as we moved into fall.  The stock market is in a veritable downward spiral and unemployment is rising rapidly.  There are a couple of things you can do to help increase your business in this sharp downturn. Most would see this market as a serious threat while I see it as a serious opportunity.  First the unfortunate displacement of so many workers can end up meaning existing buyers of your product or service may no longer be in that role.  That can present an opportunity as someone new may be in charge of the acquisition of the products you provide.  Although the economy is struggling this can be an excellent time to make new contacts in new roles.  Business is not going to come to a halt, organizations will look for higher value or better service which opens the door for you and your business.  Take advantage of the opportunity.Second it can be an excellent time to pick up quality talent for your business.  As the situation in the job market continues to decline it can become a great time to bring premier talent in your industry to your company.  Especially with smaller businesses during this type of job market you will find high end executives willing to take a chance with a small business when other options are absent.  If you are in the position to seek new talent as the job market weakens some of the best people in your industry with decades of experience may be available.
