Flashy images have always been the centre of attraction to the visitors and it does provide a wonderful user experience and definitely increases sales. But have you ever thought about the pain an SEO has to take while optimizing a flashy website? No, not really!  An SEO knows the effects of search engine rankings and the best possible methods to be used. But the clients want an attractive site, packed in the glossy box and want it to be optimized at the same time. So, what should you do to satisfy both the requirements? Read and find it out yourself.   If the client insists on having a flashy site, the best way to incorporate it is to create an HTML site and then implement flash movies in place of images, buttons and banners. Use best of both the worlds: a flashy site for the viewers looking for the glamour, and an HTML site for the search engine spiders and also for the viewers on dial up.  Don’t have a single splash page as your entry point which will force the visitors to return to the beginning. This will irritate them. Another method that is frequently used is to create invisible layers in CSS, i.e. place text over the Flash text that is readable by search engines but invisible to the human eye. This method is similar to cloaking and is therefore a black hat SEO practice.
  How Spiders crawl Flashy Images
Earlier the textual content found in .swf Flash files were unreadable by search engines like the text in images. The search engines could read only the HTML text on a page and it could be indexed by the search engine spiders. On June, 2008 Google together with Adobe and Yahoo, announced that it was possible for the search engines to successfully read the content within the Flash files. The Flash player technology provided by Adobe made the immense quantity of content accessible that was previously unapproachable by the search engines. This helped the website to become more exposed to the visitors and thereby bring into more business.
The negative points of Flash
 ·        Flash requires a lot of bandwidth
 ·        Most search engines don’t index Flash
 ·        The Back button is usually disabled
·        They generally lack the text that contains the keywords identified for search engine optimization.

How to optimize Flash on your website:
  ·        Flash pages should use the NOEMBED tags.
 ·        Use of CSS element mostly eliminates the ranking disadvantages that come with a Flash site.
 ·        Create distinct HTML pages for each Flash page so that the visitors can either view the flash image or the HTML version.
 ·        Use the Flash Search Engine SDK tool that will extract the text from the flash file and transfer it to a simple HTML document.

Summary   Optimizing a flashy website for the demanding search engines is not a very easy task. Many web pages are now-a-days embellished with nice graphics and flashy images which the search engines find difficult to index. Always remember, the goal of search engines is to provide relevant content to the users. It is only through a good content containing the proper keyword density and by following the tips to optimize a flashy website that an SEO can optimize a website and help to attract potential customers for the clients.
