The 20th century has seen modeling rise to eminence and developed into a thriving industry. Originally modeling was divided into ramp modeling and photographic modeling. Ramp Models were sauntering down the catwalk. Ramp models walked well and master their moves and turns.

Today models no longer specialize in one particular field of work but work in many fields such as: high fashion modeling including catwalk, print and TV commercials, videos and general photographic work for fashion and glamour magazines. Models seem to live fast with a sudden attitude. A lot of traveling and vicious competition makes the job demanding. The set requires the model to adapt to changing environments. Time and again the model has to pose in freezing temperatures or fully dressed at a hot location. Getting the style ready, with perfect make-up and hair requires to the model to be at the set from dawn. Since modeling does not required a certain educational level models come from all ages and social levels. However in order to cope with the difficult situation (travelling, competition and sometimes rejections), it is advisable that the model brings along a hard working attitude and confidence.

Super models such as Kate Moss make headlines for drug abuse and wild partying. Models are considered being conceited and the incorporation of body perfection. In the end they express industry requirements of fashion labels, sport companies and the media in general. After all modeling is a job like any other but wrapped up in myths. There are different types of modeling such as Catwalk modeling that requires specific physical dimensions. There is no other reason than the conception of fashion designers that demands super thin models. Recently there were debates around Catwalk models and health issues triggered by a prohibition of anorexic models for fashion shows in Spain. Unlike acting modeling does not require you to memorize any lines and speak in the front of a camera, even though there is a demand for models in the TV sector also.
