When planning an event, you have to be aware that you have a legal obligation to have a first aider or first aid team present. If you don't your leaving yourself open to lawsuits and other problems. In the UK for every 500 people at an event you need one first aider, although for public events I'd suggest instead one male and one female first aider, some people can be funny about gender.

When choosing your first aider or first aid provider remember that they need to be insured and should ALWAYS display a certificate of insurance. The first aiders do not need public liability as this should already be provided by the event organiser. Remember no Insurance = Lawsuit. Always check your first aiders have the appropriate valid first aid certificates.

It is advisable if your in the UK to make sure the first aider has a CRB Check (or other national equivalent) and if you are hiring an independent company to provide your first aid to check they have a policy for Child protection and Vulnerable Adults. This should prove that your provider is serious about welfare and not out to make a fast buck.

Also in the UK your first aiders should be aware of Health and safety and RIDDOR you should also ask them about if there is an emergency how they are going to contact the emergency services (most providers use a mobile telephone, some have no provision)

Finally if your running a Big event, how are your first aiders going to keep in touch with each other? Mobiles do not cut the mustard, they take too long to dial, and signals can always be a problem
We divide our first aiders into teams with two people to a team, and each team has a proffessional Radio transmitter/receiver with them, with big events we also have a Radio Controller on site.

I hope you will see that there are many things to think about whilst organising an event, but better still use a professional company that cares about your needs and requirements, and allows you to get on and do the things you need to do without the worry Choose One Earth Events Ltd
