We have now been using VOIP (see
http://www.sellcomvoip.com ) for months now and are finding it to be very reliable. We have links to several different VOIP providers that we think provide the best value.
The EV4500 phone by TMC Corporation has redefined what is available to the SOHO and small business by providing a feature set that formerly demanded a PBX system. The feature set is too lengthy to post here but is available at
http://www.tmcphones.biz The features include voicemail, auto attendant, intercom etc...
One important consideration with the VOIP and a multiple phone system is whether the ATA has enough power to ring all of the phones.
The TMC EV4500 phones communicate using line 1 so you need to have all devices to have line one in common and any DSL filter installed AHEAD of the phones.
The TMC phones are rebranded by several major phone companies because they work so well with Centrex, but many are finding that with the EV4500 feature set that they don't need Centrex.
The manufacturer website for TMC is
www.tmccorporation.comThey have shown themselves over the years to have excellent tech support and, a very rare thing in this hour, a TWO year warranty.
After extensive testing we are comfortable using and recommending VOIP. It was interesting that when we went to shut off a telco line that the phone co suddenly discovered that they could offer a lower price.
The only issue that we have seen that may still be a problem with VOIP is number portability.
