Book way in advance

Contradiction to the traditional belief that last moment deals are cheaper, we claim that this only works when availability is in a surplus. It does NOT work when availability is limited. Booking in advance is the right strategy here. Amsterdam hotels are very busy during weekends and holidays and you might find yourself compromising on remote hotel due to that. We sincerely advise not to “push your luck” but to book much in advance.

Tips & Tactics
Helpful advice for making the most of this Guide

  • Book in advance. Most hotels will allow you to cancel a reservation up to 72 hours before arrival with no cancellation costs.
  • Check if price includes: breakfast: usually 10 to 20 Euros, VAT: 6% and city tax: 5 Euros.
  • Check your cancellation policy before actual booking. Some bookings and hotels offering advanced cheaper rates but the reservation cannot be canceled or changed.
  • Avoid the common concept of searching hotels in downtown. This is a noisy, busy and expensive location. Amsterdam is very small and the Museums are much more suitable for business travelers.
  • If you are in town for exhibition taking place at the RAI, it makes sense to book a hotel near it and not next to Central Station on the other side of the town.
  • Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is located about 20 Kilometers from Amsterdam Central Station. The easiest, fastest and cheapest way is simply to take the train. Taxi will reach the 35 to 40 Euros and might get stuck in traffic.
  • Amsterdam hotels rooms, as they usually are in Europe tend to be smaller that the American equivalents, hence a source of some disappointment. It is easier to adjust expectations than it is the rooms.
  • Last but not least: keep some time for leisure in Amsterdam, after all this is one of the nicest most peaceful cities in the world.
